new-microsoft-logo_EMMicrosoft will provide the Microsoft Cloud Solution for WIC to host the management information system of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children program in Texas.

Michael Donlan, vice president of Microsoft’s U.S. state and local government business, wrote in a piece published Wednesday that the program’s move to cloud aims to eliminate perceived delays in food benefit programs.

He said participants experience challenges in their receipt of benefits through the current system due to data backups and sync delays.

Microsoft Cloud Solution for WIC is built on Microsoft Government Cloud and facilitates a scalable, cloud-based system that works to support future developments and reduce issues such as downtime and gaps in benefits coverage, Donlan wrote.

He added that the new system also includes Dynamics CRM Online Government reporting functions and other features that help monitor health outcomes and address issues in wait times, customer service, inventory management, scheduling and employee mobility.

A cloud-based system will also enable “Texas WIC staff to focus on their clients, helping them spend more time providing one-on-one services and nutrition education for women, infants, and children throughout the state,” Donlan said.
