HIIPhilip Luna, corporate vice president and president of UniversalPegasus International, has joined the senior executive team at UPI parent company Huntington Ingalls Industries in a move that takes effect immediately.

HII said Friday it also appointed Michael Smith, corporate VP for development and nuclear and environment sciences, to serve as corporate VP for strategy and development beginning on March 1.

Both executives will report directly to HII President and CEO Mike Petters.

Luna is a more than three-decade industry veteran and came to UPI in 2012 after work in multiple positions at Jacobs Engineering, CDI Engineering and Exxon.

He currently serves on the board of directors at St. Thomas High School.

Smith will oversee HII’s strategic planning, development and market analysis activities in the construction and engineering sectors.

He joined the company in 2014 as corporate VP of business growth after 10 years of service at BAE Systems, where he most recently served as VP for business development, strategy and planning within the support solutions sector.

Before he joined the private sector, Smith served as a U.S. Navy surface warfare officer for five years and was assigned aboard the USS Valley Forge cruiser and the USS Carl Vinson and USS John C. Stennis carriers.
