F35TyphoonAviogei has turned over the first F-35 Lightning II heavyweight crane to Lockheed Martin in support of aircraft manufacturing activity at an F-35 assembly facility in Italy.

The crane is designed to transport and install F-35 components weighing 9,920.8 pounds overall for repair works at sea and ashore, Lockheed said Tuesday.

“The work being done at Aviogei and across the nation supports mission readiness for all F-35 military services,” said Mary Ann Horter, vice president for F-35 sustainment support at Lockheed.

F-35 customers will continue to place orders for additional cranes as operational and deployment needs arise, the company said.
