turbine aircraftRolls-Royce will allocate more than $42.7 million in funds to build a new facility in Tyne and Wear, England that will produce fan and turbine discs for its in-service aerospace engines.

The proposed manufacturing plant is part of the company’s modernization initiative for its disc manufacturing business, Rolls-Royce said Friday.

The defense contractor expects the new facility to annually produce at least 1,500 turbine and fan discs for integration with its aircraft engines such as Trent 500, Trent 800, EJ200, Adour and RB211 engines.

Rolls-Royce said the new plant is scheduled to enter full operational phase by 2018 and will house employees from its Sunderland facility, which the company plans to shut down in 2019.
