Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Arbor Networks and Rapid7 have formed a coalition to educate and influence policymakers on cybersecurity issues.

The Coalition for Cybersecurity Policy and Law said Thursday it aims to represent industry in policymaking venues and help the government identify strategies to spur development of information technology security tools and methods.

“The members of this coalition are dedicated to building our nation’s public and private cybersecurity infrastructure,” said Ari Schwartz, coordinator of the Coalition for Cybersecurity Policy and Law.

Schwartz added the group “will serve as the voice of the industry as we work with policymakers to develop the most effective responses to those threats.”

The coalition has provided feedback on the National Institute of Standards and Technology‘s Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.

Among its recommendations, the coalition said NIST should establish additional standards to verify individuals and automated devices as well as address supply chain vulnerabilities in the agency’s framework.
