IBMlogo3 EbizIBM has received a Defense Information Systems Agency authorization to host impact-level 5 data workloads for the Defense Department through the firm’s cloud service.

The conditional authority-to-operate certification allows IBM to provide its Cloud suite for the management of controlled unclassified information at DoD, the company said Thursday.

The service is offered from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in West Virginia, a data center that the U.S. Navy has leased to the technology firm.

“Defense agencies have the opportunity to embrace commercial cloud best practices and technology with the security of a government-owned facility,” said Sam Gordy, general manager of IBM’s federal business.

Gordy added the company also seeks to help the department deploy workloads in hybrid cloud infrastructure that can integrate with their systems on premise.

IBM’s cloud portfolio is designed to comply with Federal Information Security Management Act and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program requirements.
