army-stock-photo-AAR Mobility Systems has been awarded a potential five-year, $49 million contract to design, produce and test two types of 20-foot shelters for the U.S. Army.

The company will also make a set of Automatic Test Equipment maintenance shelters to contain the test systems as well as Next Generation Automatic Test System storage shelters for system-specific tools required in tests on systems components, AAR said Monday.

Lee Krantz, an AAR senior vice president, said the company wants the shelters to have reduced weight and increased payload capacity compared to prior models as the Army aims to lower its fuel consumption.

AAR said it will design the shelters at its Cadillac, Michigan plant and manufacture them in a Goldsboro, North Carolina facility.
