MarkLogic-logoMarkLogic has said healthcare agencies are using the company’s database technology to support patient care as organizations seek a 360-degree view of health information through the integration of data silos.

The company said at the 2016 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Annual Conference & Exhibition on Monday that healthcare organizations such as M*Modal, HealthCare.gov and the top three Medicare/Medicaid Manager Care Payers employ MarkLogic’s database support.

MarkLogic’s database seeks to support patient care and business decisions through the simplification of merger and acquisition processes and data exchange, and the reduction of administrative, operational and billing costs.

The company noted a MeriTalk study that claims healthcare organizations lose $342 billion in benefits every year due to data integration challenges.

““We support many thousands of concurrent users in many healthcare facilities, and encode millions of speech-based documents each day in real time — and we could not accomplish this with a relational database,” said Aaron Brauser, M*Modal vice president for Solutions Management.

Brauser added that these data integration issues need to be addressed with new technology, a trend that led M*Modal to employ the help of MarkLogic.

“As the healthcare industry undergoes rapid and significant change, successful organizations understand they need to leverage insights across all of their data in order to adapt in a competitive marketplace, and optimally serve their patients, consumers and employees,” said Bill Fox, MarkLogic vice president for healthcare and life sciences.

“This requires easier and cost-effective data integration within a secure, fully transactional system.”
