general-dynamics-logo2A U.K.-based subsidiary of General Dynamics has received a $192 million contract from the country’s defense ministry to provide new tactical communications systems to Britain’s armed forces.

General Dynamics UK Limited will supply 12,000 data terminals and a new battle management system as part of the BCIP5.6 contract to support Bowman tactical communications systems, General Dynamics said Thursday.

“We are delighted to continue our successful partnership… and to build on this unique UK sovereign capability,” said Steve Rowbotham, chief operating officer of General Dynamics UK.

The U.K. has deployed Bowman technologies to its armed forces since 2005 and more than 15,000 army ground vehicles have the systems.

This new contract will also create 50 new jobs and sustain 20 engineers in the company’s Oakdale, South Wales-based headquarters.
