HII Completes 30-Day Endurance Test of Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Developed With Battelle - top government contractors - best government contracting eventHuntington Ingalls Industries has completed a 30-day endurance test of the Proteus unmanned undersea vehicle built by the company’s Undersea Solutions Group subsidiary and Battelle.

HII said Tuesday Proteus was put in a tank at USG’s Florida facility where nearby computers fed navigational and depth data to the UUV’s autonomy and vehicle control systems to mimic an open water mission.

Proteus was submerged for 720 hours as it simulated 2,412 nautical miles of travel and performed simulated autonomous mission behaviors, HII noted.

Ross Lindman, USG vice president of operations, said the demonstration aims to present reliability data and serve as a technical foundation for the U.S. Navy‘s future long-endurance UUV requirements.

USG is based in Panama City, Florida, and operates under HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division.
