Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, Inmarsat senior vice president for U.S. government strategy and policy, has said the integration of commercial and military satellite communications systems will provide ubiquity of access to warfighters.

Cowen-Hirsch writes in a blog post published Monday that industry seeks to support military operations through the Satcom as a Service model, which works to provide global connectivity and eliminate challenges associated with varied networks.

“Warfighters only want/require mission success, and reliable communications is the enabler,” Cowen-Hirsch said.

“An integrated satcom architecture developed in partnership with the satcom industry is instrumental to meeting the national security requirements of today and tomorrow,” she wrote.

She added that industry-government collaboration will work to fill in capability gaps and facilitate portability, resiliency and protection.

Cowen-Hirsch unveiled a paper titled “Warfighters Deserve More Capabilities – Wherever They Are” at the National Space Symposium, where she reiterated the benefits of collaborative efforts between the Defense Department and commercial satellite providers.
