naval-drone-stock-photoThales has secured a contract from a Malaysian maritime agency to build fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems for Malaysia’s coastal surveillance program.

The company said Friday it will deliver and deploy Fulmar drones on six New Generation Patrol Crafts in an effort to help the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to conduct border surveillance, anti-smuggling, fisheries policing and counter-piracy operations.

Fulmar UAS is designed to take off and land on a moving vessel and to automatically detect, track and identify potential threats.

The contract also calls for Thales to provide drone training and lifecycle support services to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
