Smartphone1 EbizFairfax County, Virginia will install an Airbus-built call handling platform into the jurisdiction’s future 911 system for use by more than 1.1 million residents.

Airbus said Monday it will provide the company’s Vesta 9-1-1 call handling platform to Fairfax County in support of the latter’s contract to General Dynamics for work to help develop, deploy, maintain and support a “next-generation” 911 network.

Steve McMurrer, Fairfax County’s 911 system administrator, said the jurisdiction will adopt Vesta to increase call center capacity and support its NG 911 readiness.

“Fairfax County has long played an important leadership role in the public safety industry as they adopt new strategies and technologies that improve their ability to respond to their community,” said Bob Freinberg, CEO of the defense and space group division within Airbus’ North American subsidiary.
