A division of Space Systems Loral will design and build camera focus mechanisms for NASA and a program teammate to use on one of the space agency’s Mars exploration instruments.

MDA US Systems developed the focus mechanism for NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory partner Malin Space Systems to be integrated on the Mars 2020 Rover instrument, SSL said Friday.

Malin is a space camera systems company that works with JPL.

Nick Zello, MDA US Systems director of emerging markets operations, said that the company works to provide a combination of spacecraft, robotics, other systems and mechanisms along with its space hardware heritage, design creativity and responsiveness for its partners and to contribute to the Mars 2020 mission.

Palo Alto, California-based commercial satellite manufacturing company SSL offers direct broadcast satellites, digital audio radio satellites, mobile satellite devices, fixed satellite services and broadband support services to customers.
