BAE Receives Navy Contract for Customized EO/IR Maritime Defense System

BAE Systems‘ U.S. subsidiary has received a $3.9 million contract from the Office of Naval Research and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory to develop a custom variant of its maritime defense system to support ONR’s Combined Electro-optic/infrared Surveillance and Response System program.

BAE Systems Inc. said Wednesday it will provide a variant of its Lock-on Naval Electro-optic/infrared Sensor System designed to integrate with existing onboard sensors and create a 360-degree visual threat picture.

LockNESS is also designed to feature a visual display track map to help operators monitor multiple threats simultaneously.

Somit Mathur, program manager for imaging and aiming solutions at BAE’s U.S. arm, said the maritime defense system offers situational awareness and optimized detect-to-engage sequence to protect platforms and crews against surface threats.

ONR’s CESARS program aims to develop an electro-optical shipboard defense system to guard surface ships from threats.
