ManpackRadio1Leonardo-Finmeccanica and Bittium will showcase their military radio platforms at the five-day Eurosatory Defense and Security International Exhibition that kicked off Monday in Paris.

Leonardo-Finmeccanica said Monday it will demonstrate how its Swave software-defined tactical radio and Bittium’s Tactical Wireless IP Network system could establish a network through a common high data rate waveform.

The European HDRWF was created under the European Secure Software defined Radio program, which is designed to facilitate interoperability of various radio systems that European ground forces use to communicate in joint operations.

Leonardo-Finmeccanica’s SWAVE SDR is a 4-channel vehicular radio designed to accommodate waveforms ranging from 2 megahertz to 2 gigahertz, while Bittium’s TAC WIN platform works to establish broadband internet protocol-based network on the battlefield.

Other firms involved in the ESSOR program’s initial phase that concluded in 2015 include Saab, Thales, Radmor and Indra.

The program’s first phase resulted in the development of the European HDRWF and definition of the European SDR architecture, while the second phase will focus on the ESSOR system’s operational performance.
