air traffic control radarThe Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a five-year, $28.3 million contract to Lockheed Martin to provide technical support for air traffic control radar systems.

Lockheed said Tuesday it will perform analysis, design, development and test services for the Microprocessor-En Route Automated Radar Tracking System as part of the contract.

Micro-EARTS works to receive and integrate air traffic data from multiple surveillance systems and display the information to support air traffic control, the company noted.

The radar system is deployed at FAA facilities across Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and at the FAA Academy and William J. Hughes Technical Center, Lockheed added.

Lockheed has agreed to merge its government information technology and services businesses with Leidos under a $5 billion deal, GovCon Wire reported Jan. 26.
