The Energy Department will support two technology development initiatives at Sandia National Laboratories for eventual transmission into the commercial market.
Sandia Labs said Tuesday its Sandia Cooler and BA-BZT-BT capacitors projects will receive an equal amount of non-federal money with the other selected energy projects from TCF to match the federal investment.
Lockheed Martin‘s Sandia Corp. subsidiary operates the laboratory on behalf of the Energy Department.
DOE’s technology transitions office collected proposals for projects in areas such as additional technology maturation to attract private partners and cooperative development opportunities between a lab and industry partners to help build the commercial application of a developed tool.
“Deploying new clean energy technologies is an essential part of our nation’s effort to lead in the 21st century economy and in the fight against climate change,†said Lynn Orr, DOE undersecretary for science and energy.
Sandia Cooler is designed to reduce energy used to cool processor chips inside data centers and other large-scale computing environments and BA-BZT-BT Capacitors are built to help electronic systems operate in high-temperature environments and other harsh conditions.
