Report: NOAA to Use Raytheon-Built UAV for Hurricane Tracking Efforts

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plans to deploy a Raytheon-developed unmanned aerial vehicle to monitor and analyze hurricane activity, WBKO reported Tuesday.

Peter Zampa writes NOAA is testing Raytheon’s Coyote UAS and aims to use up to seven units of the drone to aid in the agency’s storm forecasting efforts this year.

Raytheon originally developed the Coyote to support the Defense Department‘s military operations, according to the report.

WBKO quoted John Hobday, business development lead for unmanned systems at Raytheon, as saying he believes the company’s drone technology has potential civilian applications.
