solider, equipment, c4isrDFNDR Armor has selected Honeywell‘s Spectra Shield ballistic composite materials to produce body armor plates for potential use in the U.S. public sector.

The companies said Wednesday Honeywell’s Spectra fiber-based materials will also support DFNDR Armor’s research-and-development work on “next generation” body armor technology for U.S. military, law enforcement and civilians.

DFNDR Armor CEO Dave Fernandez said the body armor manufacturer uses Honeywell Spectra exclusively to help meet customer protection, weight and mobility needs.

Spectra fiber is designed to feature Advanced Dynamic Deflection technology that works to redirect the impact of a projectile away from the wearer to address trauma, recovery and mobility, Honeywell added.

Spectra Shield uses Spectra fiber to offer ballistic-resistant material for armor applications such as bullet-resistant vests, breast plates, helmets, combat vehicles and military aircraft, Honeywell noted.
