General AtomicsA business unit of General Atomics has equipped the Watts Bar Unit 2 nuclear power plant with full plant radiation monitoring systems after the company’s selection by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

General Atomics electromagnetic systems’ radiation monitoring systems are now in operation at Watts Bar Unit 2, which is the first new U.S. nuclear power plant since 1996, the company said Tuesday.

The systems feature control room indicators and area and process monitors in line with 10CFR50 Appendix B, NQA-1 and Regulatory Guide 1.97 nuclear industry standards.

Watts Bar Unit 2 is scheduled to be commercially operational by summer 2016 after comprehensive validation and testing is completed on the plant’s systems and controls.
