Saab LogoSaab has received a $5.4 million order from the Defense Department to supply a company-built man-portable weapon system to U.S. military agencies.

The defense and security company said Thursday the order for Saab’s Carl-Gustaf was issued under a previously awarded DoD contract for 84-millimeter recoilless rifle systems.

Michael Andersson, president and CEO of Saab’s North American business, said Carl-Gustaf features a range of munition types to aid soldiers in various environments.

Carl-Gustaf — also called Multi-role, Anti-armor Anti-personnel Weapon System in the U.S. — works to help dismounted soldiers neutralize armoured vehicles, clear obstacles and engage enemies in buildings.
