SocialMediaThe Virginia Contracting Activity has begun its search for potential industry sources that can provide social media reports for use in background investigations of security clearance holders and applicants.

VACA said in a FedBizOpps notice published Thursday it plans to award a one-year contract to potential contractors that can deliver social media reports designed to support security and eligibility reviews of individuals that seek to get and retain security clearances from the Defense Intelligence Agency in compliance with the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act.

Such reports should include data on an individual’s use of social media sites, personal details, social media history and an analysis of a person’s social networks, foreign comments and contacts, financial records, psychological condition as well as questionable conduct, according to the statement of work.

Responses to the sources sought notice are due July 20.

National Intelligence Director James Clapper signed a policy in May that would authorize federal investigators to use social media data as an investigative tool in the security clearance process.
