Helicopter-RadarThe U.S. Navy has awarded an L-3 Communications subsidiary a $21.9 million modification to exercise the first option on a previously awarded contract for contractor-owned and operated business jet training services.

L-3 Communications Vertex Aerospace will provide the training services to support the Navy’s maritime air patrol, low/slow terrorist aircraft, air interdiction and air intercept/anti-submarine missions, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

The services are meant to also address the military branch’s training requirements through air intercept control, anti-submarine tactical attack control, tracking exercises, electronic warfare missions, banner tows and target tows.

Vertex Aerospace will perform work at the Virginia Capes Training Ranges in Virginia, North Island Naval Base in California and Kauai, Hawaii through August 2017.

The Naval Air Systems Command will finance the modification with the Navy’s fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance funds.
