Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin has changed the name of its mission systems and training business area in an effort to demonstrate the company’s expanded portfolio after it completed the acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft from United Technologies Corp. for approximately $9 billion in November.

The business area will start to operate as Lockheed’s rotary and mission systems business segment on Sept. 5 and will focus on five business lines, Lockheed said Thursday.

Those business lines include Sikorsky, integrated warfare tools and sensors, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and undersea systems, ship and aviation platforms, as well as logistics and training systems.

Dan Schultz, formerly vice president of Lockheed’s ship and aviation systems business, was appointed president of Sikorsky in November after he led the helicopter business’ integration with Lockheed’s mission systems and training organization.

Dale Bennett, executive vice president of Lockheed’s rotary and mission systems business segment, said the name change also seeks to reflect the addition of 18,000 employees to the business segment after Lockheed realigned some of its business units.

Lockheed’s rotary and mission systems segment is based in Washington with at least 35,000 employees.
