WFIRSTNASA wants industry information on a solid state data recorder to support a conceptual design of the agency’s future wide field imaging observatory platform.

A notice posted Monday on FedBizOpps stated the data recorder will become a component of the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope‘s payload command and data handling subsystem.

The recorder will work to store science data packets from the observatory’s wide field and coronagraph instruments, the notice stated.

NASA posted the request for information notice to survey potential vendors and support the planning and feasibility study for the WFIRST mission.

Interested vendors may submit written and illustrated concepts, cost and schedule estimates and capacity descriptions until September 1.

WFIRST is scheduled for a 2024 launch to explore dark energy, exoplanets and infrared astrophysics through a six-year mission.
