NIST Seeks Industry, Govt Input on Cyber Trends, Challenges - top government contractors - best government contracting event

cybersecurityThe National Institute of Standards and Technology has asked government agencies and industry to provide information on the current and future cybersecurity challenges and trends as well as novel approaches to address such challenges.

NIST said in a Federal Register notice posted Wednesday the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity will use the responses from the request for information to draft recommendations that seek to build up cybersecurity and ensure privacy in both public and private sectors.

President Barack Obama established the commission as part of the Commerce Department through an executive order in order to increase cybersecurity awareness and advance digital security across government agencies and enterprises.

The commission seeks information in several topic areas, such as critical infrastructure cybersecurity, Internet of Things, access and identity management, cybersecurity insurance and workforce, federal governance, local government cybersecurity, and public awareness and education.

The commission also wants insights on technology trends and platforms and its impact on the digital economy, performance measures for national-level and long-term cybersecurity policies and the role of agencies to advance cybersecurity measures for the private sector.

Responses to the RFI are due Sept. 9, according to the notice.
