data graph chartReuters has unveiled a new tool that works to determine the likelihood of a candidate to win or lose the U.S. presidential election through analysis of voting patterns based on demographics and candidates' levels of support in an online survey.

The “States of the Nation” tool is backed by an online poll by Reuters and market research firm Ipsos that collects responses from approximately 15,000 people on a weekly basis, Reuters said Wednesday.

States of the Nation aims to “examine how different groups and demographics can affect the race,“ said Mo Tamman, Reuters editor and creator of the project.

The tool is designed to run election simulations based on gathered responses to determine a particular candidate's chances of winning the election.

The platform works to help users alter the voter turnout by political party affiliation, race and ethnicity, sex, age and income range to determine how such voting patterns would affect the result of the presidential race.
