centrusCentrus Energy has received a one-year, $25 million contract from a Battelle-University of Tennessee partnership to support the advancement of U.S. gas centrifuge uranium enrichment technology.

Centrus said Thursday it will engineer and test the American Centrifuge technology under the follow-on contract with UT-Battelle in efforts to help address the country’s future national and energy security requirements.

UT-Battelle runs the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee for the Energy Department.

“With this contract, our scientists, engineers and operations staff can continue their vital work ensuring that an advanced U.S. uranium enrichment technology is ready for deployment when the country needs it,” said Larry Cutlip, vice president of field operations at Centrus.

The company will also develop and test new tools with the goal to increase the manufacturability and reliability of uranium enrichment technology in the country.

The contract runs through Sept. 30, 2017.
