AirbusAn Airbus subsidiary has been selected to provide its imagery streaming tool to North Carolina in support of the state’s emergency response efforts following Hurricane Matthew.

The company said Wednesday its defense and space unit’s i-cubed subsidiary will also employ its Geospatial Appliance Targeted for Operational Response device to help deliver six-inch orthorectified images based on data collected from January through March 2016 as part of the the 911 Statewide Orthoimagery Program.

GATOR is a portable geospatial server designed to provide humanitarian relief workers, disaster response teams and state officials access to the satellite data when disconnected, en-route or in remote locations.

Greg Buckman, head of Airbus DS’ intelligence business operations in North America, said the company will utilize its optical and radar satellites to support the dissemination of data to emergency response teams during natural disasters such as Hurricane Matthew.

Airbus noted the tool supports the situational awareness of responders by identifying the locations of small electrical utilities and drainage during emergency situations.

Emergency responders can stream data from GATOR through applications compatible with SOAP, REST, WMS and WMTS services, the company added.
