tablet, soldier, c4isrHoneywell and Inmarsat have forged a partnership to provide satellite communications offerings intended to help military users connect anywhere in the world.

Inmarsat combines its Global Xpress SATCOM as a service in-flight broadband service with Honeywell’s JetWave satellite communications hardware in efforts to provide high-bandwidth connectivity for military customers, Honeywell said Monday.

Carey Smith, president of defense and space at Honeywell’s aerospace segment, said the connectivity platform will work to transform how troops communicate in the field and acquire situational awareness in multiple locations.

Inmarsat also issued type approval for JetWave aeronautical terminals designed to help customers use in-flight internet service via the Global Xpress satellite network.

“We are excited to present Honeywell’s JetWave system as the first Global Xpress type-approved airborne terminal compatible with the Global Xpress SATCOM as a service,” said Peter Hadinger, president of Inmarsat’s U.S. government business unit.
