StockMissileLaunchMDARaytheon has completed a flight test on the newest variant of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System surface-based system Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile that features an enlarged motor to expand the NASAMS engagement envelope.

Raytheon said Tuesday the AMRAAM-Extended Range missile launched from a NASAMS launcher to engage and destroy a target drone at a flight test held at Andoya Space Center in Norway.

NASAMS operators from Norway’s military conducted the live-fire to verify the system that includes the AMRAAM-ER missile, NASAMS missile launcher, Sentinel Radar and Fire Distribution Center on its capacity to engage a target drone using a live-warhead-equipped missile.

“AMRAAM-ER combines the guidance section and warhead from AMRAAM with the rocket motor from the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile,” said Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon’s missile systems business.
