fod-finderA Trex Enterprises subsidiary will deliver 10 “foreign object debris” detection units to U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps air stations across the East and West coasts in efforts to limit runway closure time and mitigate repair costs caused by FODs.

Trex Aviation Systems‘ FOD Finder XM-M features a millimeter-wave radar that works to support FOD detection and retrieval to build on airport efficiency and the military’s warfighting readiness, the company said Wednesday.

“The FOD Finder XM-M has been tested and evaluated by the Federal Aviation Administration for 18 months at various airports,” said Kenneth Tang, chairman and CEO of Trex Aviation Systems.

The truck-based system features a Trex FOD detection radar, a vacuum retrieval system, an touch-screen user interface display, data acquisition and storage functions and tools that prevent interference with airport and aircraft communication, navigation and surveillance systems.

The FOD Finder has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to operate in airports and has been deployed at the Dyess Air Force Base, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Honolulu International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and China’s Tianjin Binhai International Airport.
