worldview4DigitalGlobe received initial signals from Lockheed Martin-built WorldView-4 satellite 45 minutes after it launched Friday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

WorldView-4 with a Harris Corp.-made imaging payload took off aboard a United Launch Alliance-made Atlas V rocket to join DigitalGlobe’s satellite constellation, Lockheed said Friday.

Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed’s space systems business, said the WorldView-4 launch seeks to reflect the company’s partnership with DigitalGlobe as well as both firms’ efforts to innovate in the remote sensing field.

The WorldView-4 satellite will work to collect 30-centimeter commercial satellite imagery and increase DigitalGlobe’s 16-year library of time-lapse imagery.
