Leidos has received a potential $66 million delivery order to provide cargo and vehicle scanning systems, optional training and maintenance services to the Customs and Border Protection agency.
The company said Tuesday it will deliver 22 VACIS M6500 non-intrusive medium energy mobile scanners to CBP ports of entry across the U.S. to help agency officers detect illegal materials as they facilitate international trade.
“Given that CBP screens more than 67,000 cargo containers each day, it is imperative that incoming cargo and vehicles are quickly evaluated with a high level of scrutiny,” said Scott Gray, Leidos senior vice president of homeland security solutions.
VACIS M6500 scanners are designed to support non-intrusive inspection of conveyances and vehicles for contraband such as illegal drugs, terrorist weapons and currency, Leidos noted.
The order has a 30-month base period and an option for up to 10 years of maintenance support from the delivery of the final unit, Leidos added.
