HoneywellThe U.S. Postal Service has begun to use more than 5,000 Honeywell-built handheld computers in efforts to expand the agency’s parcel tracking network.

Honeywell said Wednesday its CN51 rugged handheld computers will support USPS’ Surface Visibility program and help postal workers internally track packages from pickup to delivery.

“As consumers continue to expect fast, accurate delivery, the Postal Service needs to know the exact location of all of its parcels throughout the entire mail process,” said Lisa London, president of Honeywell’s productivity products business.

CN51 is designed to operate in rugged and outdoor environments as well as feature a multi-touch screen with motion tolerance and support for barcode scanning, Honeywell noted.

USPS plans to expand its Surface Visibility program to 113 locations and 58 temporary facilities to address the holiday volume.

The agency deployed more than 270,000 Honeywell mobile computers in 2014 as part of a separate effort to help customers track their parcels.
