F16FleetNetherlands’ air force has selected Northrop Grumman to update electronic countermeasure pods used on the country’s fleet of F-16 aircraft in a push to help the aircraft adapt to the modern threat environment.

Northrop said Monday that work will cover the development of threat detection and jamming capacity for the Netherlands air force’s AN/ALQ-131 electronic countermeasure pods.

Robert Fleming, a vice president at Northrop, said the digital technology under the AN/ALQ-131 update looks to boost capacity for electronic countermeasures and offer protection for the Netherlands’ air force personnel.

AN/ALAQ-131 ECM currently supports the U.S. and 11 other countries for aircraft platforms such as the A-10, B-1, B-52, C-130, F-15, F-16, F/A-18 and F-35.
