Navy Plans Airborne Router Devt Contract Award to ATCorp - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe U.S. Navy plans to award Architecture Technology Corp. a one-year contract to develop 10 ruggedized router prototypes for carrier-based aircraft through a Small Business Innovation Research program, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Thursday.

John Keller writes the military branch will ask ATCorp to build small size, weight and power consumption routers called small-form-factor automated networking systems under the third phase of the Minimized Space, Weight and Power Network Architecture Solution  project.

The Navy also wants the company to test the S-FAN system on the Navy’s E-2D Hawkeye carrier-based aircraft and plan for the router’s integration into other Navy and commercial aircraft, according to the report.

The report noted S-FAN will work to optimize router configuration and reduce the time it takes for carrier strike groups to create, configure and modify tactical networks.

ATCorp designed a small-form-factor, multi-link aircraft router then tested the platform in a laboratory during the program’s first and second phases, Keller wrote.
