CH2M to Help Design New York City Coastal Protection System

CH2M has been selected by New York city’s department of design and construction to develop preliminary and final designs for a coastal protection system that will work to mitigate floods and facilitate access to the waterfront.

The East Side Coast Resiliency project is designed to encompass Lower Manhattan in an effort to bolster resilience against flood and rising sea levels as well as support the community’s environmental welfare, CH2M said Jan. 31.

“Our engineers have been working on the city’s waterfront for more than 35 years and have extensive experience addressing sea level rise and climate adaptation,” said Jonathan Goldstick, project manager at CH2M.

The company added it will continue work with AKRF to deliver engineering and structural designs on hard passive resiliency components such as flood walls in efforts to provide protection to New York coastal areas.
