Amazon Web Services has selected 19 winners for its 2017 AWS City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge to highlight local and regional governments’ contribution to develop technologies for citizens around the world.
The company said Wednesday it named winners across the Best Practices, Dream Big and Partners in Innovation categories during the AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C.
Teresa Carlson, vice president of AWS’ global public sector, said that the City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge resulted in applications from cities, police departments, school districts and other partners that used data analytics, internet-of-things services and other data projects on the AWS Cloud.
Carlson, and inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2017, added the company will utilize the winners’ projects to help develop roads, offer digital learning services and aid first responders.
Winners under the Best Practices category include:
- City of Virginia Beach
- Intermediate School District 287
- Lawrence Police Department
- Solodev and Seminole County Public Schools
- Transport for London
Winners under the Dream Big category include:
- City of Iowa
- City of Ottawa
- Louisville Metro Government
- Marmion Academy
- Seattle Public Schools
- Tulsa Public Schools
Winners under the Partners in Innovation category include:
- Anthemis Technologies
- Blue Spurs
The City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge awards promotional credits to help select local and regional governments, private and public school districts develop project proposals designed to aid citizens worldwide.
