NetCentrics‘ board of directors has appointed President Cyndi Barreda to serve as the next chief executive of the Herndon, Virginia-based information technology and cybersecurity company.

Barreda will succeed CEO and co-founder Bob Dougherty, who will transition to a new role as vice chairman of the NetCentrics board, the company said Tuesday.

“Through our CEO search process, we realized that no one else has the background, depth of experience and familiarity that [Barreda] has accrued over the past 15 years with NetCentrics,” said Peter Pace, NetCentrics board chairman.

Barreda joined the company in 2002 and has more than 20 years of federal information technology strategy, process development, program management and strategic planning experience.

She previously served as a principal at American Management Systems and an information management specialist at the Department of the Army.
