Daniel Kliman, a U.S. Navy Reserve officer and former senior adviser at the Defense Department, has been named senior fellow in the Asia-Pacific Security Program of the Center for a New American Security.

CNAS said Thursday Kliman will focus on research efforts to examine U.S. competition with China, integration of U.S. allies and U.S. military presence in the APAC region.

Kliman previously served as senior adviser for Asia integration in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, where he was the principal Asia expert for the implementation of DoD’s Third Offset Strategy and oversaw international engagements on defense innovation.

He also worked at German Marshall Fund of the United States as a transatlantic fellow and a senior adviser within the nonprofit organization’s Asia program.

Before that, he was a visiting fellow in CNAS’ APAC Security Program, preceptor at Princeton University and adjunct research associate at the Institute for Defense Analyses.
