Leanne Caret, CEO of Boeing’s defense, space and security business, told CNBC in a video interview aired Friday, that the company considers space exploration and satellite business as “key” growth opportunities.

“I think there’s an excitement about space that we haven’t seen in the last few decades that’s really keeping the conversation going in a positive direction, and the technology is something that can be leveraged across a number of other platforms and weapons systems,” Caret said.

She told CNBC that Boeing is scheduled to bring astronauts to space in 2018 as the company performs development work on the Starliner spacecraft under NASA’s commercial crew program.

The report noted that Starliner is set to perform its inaugural flight test in June and a manned test flight in August.

Caret, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017, also said on the channel’s “Squawk Box” program that Boeing is a “buyer” and is on the lookout for potential acquisitions.
