Australia Introduces Defense Cooperative Research Center for Autonomous Systems - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe Australian government has established the first Defense Cooperative Research Center for Trusted Autonomous Systems which will aim to supply smart-machine and defense technologies through human-machine teaming strategies.

BAE Systems, RMIT University, DefendTex and the Australian defense science and technology group are the inaugural members of CRC, the country’s defense department said Monday.

The center’s initial three projects will focus on littoral operations, networked and persistent autonomy functionalities.

Christopher Pyne, Australian minister for the defense industry, said BAE, Thales Australia and Lockheed Martin will lead the first three research projects in the land, maritime and aerospace areas.

Potential project partners and CRC members from academia and the industry include Acacia, AOS Group, Boeing and its Insitu subsidiary, Saab, University of South Australia, University of Queensland, Flinders University and the University of New South Wales.
