NASA has published a request for information on FedBizOpps in an effort to determine the availability of Earth science data from commercial small satellites, Space News reported Friday.
The agency will accept capability statements from the private sector through Dec. 22 and looks to purchase Earth-relevant data products through blanket purchase agreements.
“The question that we’re asking in NASA is what value do the data products that come from your small satellite constellations have to the government to advance our research, science and applications interests,†Michael Freilich, director at NASA’s Earth science division, told audience during a town hall meeting held Tuesday.
NASA is interested in buying data that will come from constellations consisting of at least three satellites in non-geostationary orbit and with complete longitudinal coverage.
