Report: Northrop Embeds Security Features in Microchip Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA Northrop Grumman facility in Baltimore, Maryland, produces microchip technology designed with security tools that are not available on the commercial market, Breaking Defense reported Wednesday.

Vern Boyle, technology director at Northrop’s cyber division, told Breaking Defense that the company works to develop specific technologies that are only accessible to the U.S. government.

He noted in the interview that the company creates its own microchips that support integration with conventional chips into a “hybrid architecture,” where government customers can deploy commercial technologies while the Northrop chips direct the system.

Northrop designed its microchips to aid in software development through conventional programming tools, without requiring a custom environment for coding, Boyle added.
