Rockwell Collins Develops Airborne Radio Mount for Iridium Satcom Network Access - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRockwell Collins has unveiled a mount technology designed to offer satellite communications capacities for tactical airborne radio users through an Iridium-managed satcom network.

The “smart” mount works to help ARC-210 radio customers transmit voice, data and location data via Iridium’s 66 satellites currently in low-Earth orbit, Rockwell Collins said Wednesday.

Ken Flowers, vice president of Iridium’s government solutions unit, said ARC-210 is built to integrate with a Defense Information Systems Agency gateway and the NEXT constellation.

Flowers added the mount platform does not require modifications to operate with the Iridium network.

Rockwell Collins demonstrated its new technology’s beyond line-of-sight communications capacity to Defense Department representatives.
