BAE to Update Australian Military's Over-The-Horizon Radar System - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA BAE Systems subsidiary has landed a contract worth potentially $775 million to modernize the Australian military’s over-the-horizon radar platform, Defence Connect reported Monday.

The report said BAE’s Australian subsidiary will aim to extend the operational life of the Jindalee Operational Radar Network beyond 2042 as part of the 10-year Project Air 2025 Phase 6 mission.

JORN was built in the 1970s and designed to deliver wide area surveillance at a range of up to 1,860 miles to support border protection, air and maritime operations, disaster relief and search and rescue missions.

The upgrade effort will involve various Australia-based companies, including Raytheon‘s Australian arm,  Daronmont Technologies and RCR Property Services.

The team will update JORN’s software architecture and processing systems as well as replace most of the radar and frequency management systems and information and communication technology hardware.
