Raytheon has completed initial design work under the U.S. Army’s Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor competition.
The company said Monday it will proceed to the technology maturation and risk reduction phase of the LTAMDS program with the goal to demonstrate a fully operational radar array and eventually an integrated prototype.
Under the program, the firm aims to develop a prototyping approach intended to minimize risks and advance sensor technology; create detailed designs that would reflect the system’s production readiness; and submit a mobility and sustainability test support plan to the Army.
Tom Laliberty, vice president of integrated air and missile defense at Raytheon’s integrated defense systems business, said the company and the service have collaborated for decades to address sophisticated threats with the use of technology.
