General Dynamics‘ Bath Iron Works subsidiary has begun construction of DDG 127, the future Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer to be named USS Patrick Gallagher.
The ship, BIW’s final destroyer in Flight IIA configuration, will feature Baseline 9 of the AEGIS Combat System designed for integrated air and missile defense, the Naval Sea Systems command said Friday.
The future USS Patrick Gallagher is being designed to take part in multiple types of maritime security missions including anti-submarine warfare, command and control, and anti-surface warfare.
The destroyer will take the name of U.S. Marine Corps veteran Lance Cpl. Patrick Gallagher, who served in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Navy Cross.
